It’s inevitable that you will run into problem customers at some point in your service business. There are some people out there that are just hard to deal with and offer more headache than anything to your business. Maybe they are always haggling you on price, or they always want to schedule work at the worst times and it’s driving you crazy. There are so many things that can make  a “problem” customer. The question I have for you is: Why put up with it?

There is nothing forcing you to do business with everyone you come across. Sometimes it just doesn’t make sense to do business with a particular customer. Don’t you want your customer list to be full of your ideal customers? Why put up with the headache that one customer can add to your business when you can easily FIRE THEM and enjoy the rest of your customers that you are delighted to do work for. Let some other service professional (that hasn’t read this post) take on this customer.

If a customer is just too much trouble to deal with then it’s time to let them go. Usually you can tell right over the phone if you are talking to your ideal customer. If they don’t sound like they are going to be a good fit for you then end the conversation and don’t take the job. If you know it’s going to be trouble from the beginning, don’t continue with them. Don’t be afraid to be picky and choose only the customers that you want to build a solid relationship with. Your service business deserves that much and it will save you a lot of headache and make your business more enjoyable to run.
